Our client, New Zealand Rugby, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel specialising in Regulatory and Compliance. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of New Zealand's largest sports organisations, committed to ensuring that their national game runs smoothly and effectively at all levels. The successful candidate will provide internal legal advice and related services to the wider NZR Group, assisting the organisation in meeting their commercial and operational objectives. This role offers the chance to be a key legal point of contact with NZR's members, including the 26 Provincial Unions and the NZMRB. * Join one of New Zealand's largest sports organisations * Provide crucial legal support to the wider NZR Group * Be a key point of contact for NZR's membersWhat you'll do:As a Senior Legal Counsel specialising in Regulatory & Compliance, you will play a pivotal role within New Zealand Rugby. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve providing proactive legal support to the wider group, particularly in relation to community rugby and domestic competitions. You will establish strong relationships with key stakeholders such as Provincial Unions and the New Zealand Māori Rugby Board. Your expertise will be crucial in managing workloads, expectations, and leveraging expertise across the team. Furthermore, you will assist in training Provincial Unions to meet their legal obligations.

Provide proactive and pragmatic legal support and advice to the New Zealand Rugby Group
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Provincial Unions, the New Zealand Māori Rugby Board, and other key stakeholders
Act as the Legal Team's primary point of contact for queries from members
Provide training and assistance to Provincial Unions, supporting them in meeting their legal and compliance obligations
Assist the General Counsel and the rest of the Legal Team as required with other matters to support team and organisational requirements

What you bring:The ideal candidate for this Senior Legal Counsel position brings a wealth of experience in commercial law, specifically within regulatory or compliance sectors. With a minimum of seven years post-admission experience under your belt, you are well-versed in managing workloads and expectations, and have a functional knowledge of the general legal framework in various areas. Your ability to leverage expertise across teams will be crucial in this role, as well as your experience in providing training and assistance to meet legal and compliance obligations.

A minimum of seven years post-admission experience in commercial law with experience in regulatory or compliance or employment law
A tertiary degree in Law and completion of legal professional studies
Ability to manage workloads and expectations effectively
Functional knowledge of the general legal framework in relation to criminal, property, commercial, employment relations or compliance issues
Ability to leverage expertise across the Legal team or externally as appropriate
Experience providing training and assistance to meet legal and compliance obligations
