MercyAscot is New Zealand's largest private surgical facility with 22 theatres across 3 sites. Our Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilisation, and packaging of all equipment used within our operating suites. We're the backbone of our theatres' operation and with the ever-increasing number of daily operations, Sterilising Unit Technicians are highly valued in our team.As a Sterilising Unit Technician at MercyAscot you will join a dedcated team of more than 30 professionals. This position will suit someone who enjoys a physical work environment and dealing with a large number of surgical instruments within a busy operating suite.This is a permanent full-time position with variable 8 hours shifts between the hours of 06:30 am and 12:00 am (midnight), across Monday to Friday and occasional weekends at our brand new purpose-built facility in Parnell.We are looking for a reliable, flexible and enthusiastic technician who is committed to working in a hospital service environment involving variable shifts that will include early and late shifts on a rotating basis.Your main duties will include:
  • Clean and sterilise reusable medical devices and surgical instruments
  • Assemble, check and package reusable medical devices and power tools
  • Ensure continuous and sufficient supply of sterile items to the operating rooms
  • Maintain infection control principles and standard precautions
  • Assist with managing incoming/outgoing loan instruments and implants
As the successful candidate you will have:
  • NZSSA Membership including Level 4 Sterilising Certificate
  • Relevant experience in a surgical hospital
  • Aptitude for handling mechanical equipment
  • Good physical fitness and agility
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • Previous experience in equipment loans or a customer services role
