About the roleThe focus of this role is to ensure that all building works undertaken within the Waipā District complies with the Building Act, Regulations and Building Code. Using your practical technical knowledge along with your high attention to detail, you will undertake building consent processing using our online consenting system (AlphaOne) to ensure the proposals meet compliance for new builds and alterations across a wide variety of complexities from small residential to large commercial.This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. The team is based in Te Awamutu. We also welcome hybrid working-from-home arrangements that ensure a great work-life balance for our people.About youAn essential part to this role is holding or working towards a technical qualification to meet the requirements of Regulation 18 of the Building Regulations 2006 (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities), for example; National Diploma in Building Control Surveying, Level 6.You will be a customer-focused and collaborative individual who is highly personable and easily builds strong professional relationships across the Council and with clients, engineers, and various other professionals and institutions. You'll have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to convey sound technical and legal advice and guidance to clients on all aspects of the building legislation in a concise manner that is understood by our wide range of customers.The ideal candidate will also have:
  • In addition to Regulation 18 you will also have demonstrated competency in BCA Residential levels 1-3, with BCA Commercial levels 1-3 being an advantage.
  • Practical in-depth understanding of the Building Act and other associated standards and regulations governing the control of building, plumbing and drainage.
  • Conflict resolution skills with the ability to remain objective.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Strong IT skills, experience in AlphaOne would be an advantage.
  • A current NZ Driver's Licence.
