Take on a key leadership role shaping the future strategic direction of Transpower and drive the decarbonisation of Aotearoa!As owner and operator of the National Grid, our transmission network consists of 170 substations, 25,000 transmission towers, and more than 11,000 kilometres of lines across public and privately held land - transporting bulk electricity (up to 220,000 volts) from where it is generated to cities, towns, and some major industrial users.As System Operator we operate the wholesale electricity market. As part of our role, we ensure supply (provided by generators) matches demand (by electricity users). We are also responsible for ensuring New Zealand's electricity system is reliable, competitive, and innovative as we play an integral role in the planning of New Zealand's electricity future.The energy industry is changing rapidly to support decarbonisation, and Transpower plays a critical role to enable this change whilst remaining a fit for future organisation.About the teamOur Strategy, Regulation & Governance division provides advice and insights to the Chief Executive, the Transpower Board and the Executive Leadership Team in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to support delivery of commercial and regulatory obligations of Transpower to Government, customers, industry, and the community we serve.The Strategy team supports the Executive General Manager (GM), Strategy, Regulation & Governance along with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the broader Transpower business to be well informed of what industry changes may look like and the strategic decisions required to be successful in this context.Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, and the broader Transpower business, the Strategy team collates and presents both global and local insights to shape business direction and the options available to be successful in our rapidly evolving context.To read more about our strategy Whakamana i Te Mauri Hiko - Empowering our Energy Future visit:About the opportunityYou will lead a team of three and provide trusted advice to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, playing a pivotal role in steering Transpower's strategic direction. This role provides thought leadership to the ELT throughout the formulation and execution of Transpower's corporate strategy.You will facilitate gaining ELT insights and spearheading the development and implementation of Transpower's corporate strategy, along with its strategic focus areas and priorities. With a strong emphasis on the delivering of commercial outcomes, the position entails facilitating the development of regulatory advocacy strategies and programmes and galvanising the organisation to meet the demands of customers, government, and the community.With a strong emphasis on delivering robust commercial outcomes, the role is accountable for crafting regulatory advocacy strategies and programmes while mobilising the organisation to address the needs of customers, government stakeholders, and the wider community.Representing Transpower to various external stakeholders, you will cultivate effective relationships and partnerships to ensure the realisation of Transpower's strategic objectives and advocacy positions.About YouHighly analytical (both quantitative and qualitative), you'll have a depth of strategic experience gained over many years from working in highly regulated and/or asset intensive businesses.Your exceptional communication and presentation skills will have been developed through a career to date which encompasses:
  • Significant strategy experience ideally in the energy sector with an impact on organisational performance in a commercial environment
  • Proven ability to surface, frame, present and work on issues at pace and with agility across the short, medium, and long-term
  • Exceptional enterprise leadership and influencing skills. You will be able to speak to the results of your work informing and positively impacting organisational/sector strategy and outcomes
  • Experience navigating rapid industry change, evolving, and growing organisations impacted by market and regulatory context, providing detailed option analysis including the identification, design, and delivery of new business opportunities
  • An understanding of complex, multi-faceted organisations with competing priorities involving both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work across an organisation from the Board to the Executive team to technical experts while joining the dots on the key issues and providing concise analysis
  • Relevant qualifications ideally to a post graduate level
