DUNEDIN SCHOOL OF MEDICINE | TE KURA WHAIORA A ŌTEPOTIAbout our team/ Mō te tīmaThe Section is one of three departments/sections in Obstetrics & Gynaecology within the University of Otago, the other two being in Christchurch and Wellington.Our reputation in clinical practice attracts referrals from around the South Island of New Zealand, and provides an excellent base for teaching in obstetrics, gynaecology and women's health.Our major teaching responsibility is the MB ChB course. We have a comprehensive registrar training programme directed towards specialist qualifications. We also convene the Postgraduate Diploma of Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology, and Certificate in Women’s Health, which are particularly suitable for GPs, midwives and other primary care practitioners. Our lecturers also contribute to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Pharmacy, and Midwifery Degree programmes as well as other postgraduate courses.The role/Te mahiThe Dunedin School of Medicine seeks to appoint a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a clinical academic to establish themselves in one of the leading medical schools in Australasia. The appointee will provide clinical teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate Obstetrics and Gynaecology teaching clinics.Key responsibilities in this role include:
  • Convening a postgraduate paper.
  • Leading one clinical session per week.
  • Presentation of patient histories to students in a clinical setting, and encouraging student/patient contact.
  • Participating in student assessments by giving feedback on clinical and professionalism.
  • Regular involvement in student assessments, feedback and ELM tutorial teaching.
Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheakoThe successful applicant will hold a professional qualification. You will be a registered health professional and will demonstrate:
  • A track record or potential for internationally peer- reviewed research.
  • Clinical teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Ability to provide specialised patient care.
  • A collegial approach.
  • Understanding of the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the University’s Māori and Pacific Strategic Frameworks.
