We are seeking a compassionate Psychiatrist to join Psychiatry Department at Mackay Hospital and Health Service, QLD.Mackay is a vibrant regional centre in tropical North Queensland, servicing a population of over 200,000. The Mackay Isaac Whitsunday Region has a thriving economy that includes a diverse range of tourism, agriculture, industry, mining, education and health industries.Mackay provides relaxed and comfortable rural and coastal living opportunities, only an hour flight from Brisbane and a short distance to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. The tropical climate is ideal for outdoor living with beautiful beaches and a spectacular natural environment nearby. Families are well serviced by a choice of high-quality schools and a wide range of sporting clubs with excellent facilities.About the unit:Mackay Base Hospital is a 236-bed regional hospital that services 10 rural hospitals and multi-purpose health facilities across the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region.The Mackay Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Service comprises an acute mental health inpatient facility with 24 beds and a Step-Up Step-Down Unit with 6 beds. Community Mental Health Services include an Acute Care Service, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Continuing Care Team, Mobile Intensive Rehabilitation Team, Early Psychosis, Child and Youth Mental Health, Older Persons Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Service. The rural communities are serviced by outreaching community teams in the Moranbah and Whitsunday area.In addition to the Community Child and Youth Mental Health Service there is an Assertive Mobile Youth Outreach Service which forms part of an integrated continuum of care for adolescents requiring mental health treatment. These services are based in Mackay with limited outreach services to Bowen, Moranbah and Sarina. The Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) in the MBH have two designated mental health beds for crisis intervention cases and links with the Townsville Adolescent Unit in the case of prolonged admissions.Requirements
  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia with Specialist registration in Psychiatry or appropriate registration with the Medical Board of Australia to practise in the specialist position
  • Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship via the substantial comparability pathway of the Royal Australian College and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)
  • Demonstrated high level of clinical knowledge, proficiency and skills in the area of General Adult Psychiatry, with the ability to work in relative isolation.
  • High level of assessment, investigations, treatment, consultation and referral skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and provide psychiatric care within a multidisciplinary environment, to build and maintain appropriate relationships with team members, clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and develop models of service delivery and clinical practice that encourages early intervention and prevention.
  • Knowledge of and proven ability to implement contemporary professional practice theories, evidence based assessments and treatment approaches within an integrated and constructive format for the benefit of clients and their families in the mental health context.
  • Proven ability to apply established ethical principles and practice standards to core clinical services and routine tasks.
  • Ability to rapidly acquire the skill to provide guidance to less experienced staff members and education to students.
