Internship Applications are now Open!Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Geology or an Earth Science related field looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our Underground Geology team at OceanaGold Waihi operation.This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid to late November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant).What will you, be doing?
  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.
Specific project work will involve:
  • Core logging, Geotechnical core logging, Core photography, Core sampling, Underground mine technician duties.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Working amongst our underground crews and the Geology team maintaining core logging and sampling support to the underground mine operation.

  • In your mid 2nd to final year of study (Geology or Earth Science related field).
  • Have accommodation options at Waihi or surrounding areas.
  • Current & strong academic performance and a passion for your chosen field.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Full Drivers License and the ability to drive a manual vehicle preferred.
  • Availability to participate from mid-late November, through to mid-February (2025-2026).
