Riviera Prenail specializes in the design and manufacturing of timber frame and truss for a variety of clients throughout the Auckland region. As a key supplier to the local building industry, Riviera Prenail has built a great name for themselves in the market and are known for their industry knowledge, and experience when it comes to delivering projects. This is reflected in their rapidly growing and expanding business.We have a brand new, purpose built, semi-automated facility in Silverdale with new 'state of the art' equipment. We offer fantastic buying/discount privileges through our Mitre 10 and Columbus Café business and offer opportunities for career development and advancement.Reporting to the Production and/or Scheduling Manager, this full time, permanent, 40 hour a week, Monday Friday position is available at our Riviera Prenail plant in Silverdale, Auckland. The hourly rate on offer would likely range from $27.00 to $30.00 per hour.As we have now installed our 2nd production line, we are looking at taking on several additional members of staff due to increased demand.Summary of the rolePrimarily, this role is responsible for cutting and shaping a variety of timber parts, including structures and fixtures, ready for installation; assembling prepared wood to form these structures and fittings ready to install and erecting framework, panelized systems and roof framing. Following are the main duties, responsibilities, competencies, experience and qualifications required for this role.Tasks, Duties and ResponsibilitiesFrames:
  • Pre-cutting framing components, materials and wood joints - cutting of components to be included in the framing e.g.: studs, nogs, lintels etc.
  • Cutting of soffit bearer and other items to go with completed framing
  • Trenching of framing top and bottom plates
  • Assembling and nailing together the cut and shaped parts / framing components in a precise and efficient manner using either handheld nail guns, mechanic nailing machines or a hammer.
Trusses:
  • Pre-cutting truss components - cutting of truss cords, webs, sundries and rafters using either the manual system or the computer-controlled automated system.
  • Truss fabrication - set up and pressing of Main and Jack trusses using either the rail jig system (hydraulic or pneumatic press) or the roller press system.
  • Posi - Strut Fabrication - set up and pressing of posi-struts, using the posi-strut jigs and the pneumatic press
  • Beam Fabrication - set up and pressing or nailing of specially designed beams (Ganglam, Maxspan & Flitch) using either the hydraulic press or the Hilti gun depending on the beam.
Health and Safety:
  • Comply with all Health & Safety guidelines and procedures including working in a safe manner and follow all safety procedures
  • Participate in the Health and Safety Hazard awareness process including reporting hazards, incidents and work-related injuries / accidents promptly in accordance with Company Health & Safety Policy
  • Ensure correct use of equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturer's instructions
Expertise and Competencies
  • Understand and operate within the regulatory environment as it applies to frame and truss
  • Knowledge of NZS 3604: 2011 and an understanding of general construction methodology
  • Can determine timber requirements and apply knowledge of floor, wall and roof construction
  • Has knowledge of timber grades.
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction including hands-on experience working with carpentry materials
  • Competent user of nail guns and drop saws and other related tools
  • Numeracy skills as it is applied to measuring, cutting and assembling timber.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Two (or more) years construction or joinery or carpentry related work experience
  • National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacturing OR National Certificate in Carpentry at NZQF level 3/4 (ANZSCO Skill Level 3) beneficial.
  • Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver's license
