Job DescriptionBusiness Development Manager – Sales & Commercial contributes to the generation of revenue for Te Papa across Museum and Commercial Services directorate. Supporting and creative development of new and enhanced internal commercial opportunities.Prioritising, developing and nurturing new relationships, proactively source and secure venue sales for both Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. These iconic venues offer flexible conference and meeting spaces, latest technology, local cuisine and welcoming service for events from 20 to 2500 people.We have a rare and exceptional new opportunity for a Business Development Manager – Sales & Commercial. You will support and contribute to the Sales and Commercial team by implementation of the strategy, understanding trends and buying patterns through data collection and supporting change where needed.We offer an exciting growth environment with significant opportunities to drive strategic change and grow revenue.If you are passionate, highly motivated and champion continuous improvement – then we want to hear from you!The role involves:
Act on leads and build networks to convert into business opportunities to generate revenue
Proactively create, manage and develop new commercial opportunities for Te Papa
Develop networks across venue sales and commercial entities and prioritise, nurture and maintain existing and new relationships
Prepare and deliver pitches and manage contract negotiations to secure new opportunities and business
Manage and monitor commercial contracts and agreements
Ensure a strong industry presence through engagement and collaboration
Develop and implement a business acquisition plan and reporting to deliver to predetermined revenue budget
Uncover booking trends, market performance and strategically target the right business
Promote and secure bookings and sales for Tākina Events and manage the delivery of Sales through others
Key skills and attributes for this role include:
5+ years business development experience in sales and in a commercial environment
Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce or Marketing or another relevant discipline or equivalent experience
Highly motivated, creative, target-driven and commercially astute individual with a demonstrable record in achieving revenue targets
Demonstrable extensive and positive experience in relationship building and maintenance
Proven experience negotiating and the ability to positively influence and create win:win outcomes when securing new business
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to adapt communication methods to a variety of audiences
Proven ability to work in a collaborative in a fast-paced environment
Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical with a solutions-based approach
Proven ability to develop processes, and an eye for constant improvement and process innovation
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
