While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for our students in our education system.About this role | Mō tēnei tūrangaThis is a permanent position.As a Senior Analyst, Forecasting and Modelling, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality analysis, modelling, and forecasting that inform funding, policy, and investment decisions across the education system. You'll work with complex datasets and apply advanced analytical techniques to develop and maintain forecasting models for early learning and schooling expenditure.The role involves understanding the drivers of education expenditure, including demographic, economic, and policy factors, and translating these into accurate and meaningful forecasts. You'll provide insights that help senior leaders and decision-makers understand the implications of different scenarios and policy settings.You'll work closely with colleagues across the Ministry and other agencies to share data, improve insights, and strengthen evidence-based decision-making. You'll also contribute to continuous improvement by enhancing forecasting processes, tools, and quality assurance practices. To be successful in this role, you'll enjoy working with complex data, applying analytical techniques, and contributing to evidence-based decision-making.You will also offer:
  • Proven experience in financial or statistical modelling and forecasting, ideally in a complex environment
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and explain complex data
  • Experience working with large datasets using tools such as R, SQL, or SAS
  • Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a quantitative discipline (e.g., economics, statistics, mathematics, or data science)

We are responsible for major forecasts across the education system - including those related to early learning, teacher salaries, school operational funding, and education workforce planning.Our work supports strategic planning, operational delivery, and Budget decisions.
