TAB NZ is on the hunt for a strategic and commercially savvy Chief Financial Officer to join its Wellington-based executive team. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is your opportunity to shape the financial future of a nationally significant organisation that plays a critical role in New Zealand's racing and sporting landscape.As a statutory body, TAB NZ is tasked with securing and distributing essential funding while upholding high regulatory standards. In this influential role, you'll guide financial strategy, ensure compliance excellence, and enable commercial innovation that delivers long-term value for New Zealand's economically significant racing industry and iconic sporting sector, as well as the wider community.About the Opportunity:
  • Advise the CEO, Board, and executive team on financial strategy, investment, and treasury decisions.
  • Lead all aspects of financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting.
  • Oversee audit, risk management, tax, FX, and insurance frameworks to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provide executive oversight of Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance functions.
  • Deliver strategic financial modelling and insights to support new commercial initiatives and drive value beyond compliance.
  • Lead the evolution of TAB NZ's finance operating model, embedding process improvement, innovation, and operational efficiency across the function.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing finance team, with a focus on inclusion, succession, and talent growth.
  • Build trusted relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, racing codes, national sporting bodies, and strategic partner Entain.
What You Bring:
  • Proven CFO-level financial leadership within complex, regulated environments, ideally with direct experience navigating joint ventures or strategic partnerships.
  • CA qualified, with a strong technical foundation
  • Strategic advisory skills with a proven track record influencing Boards and executive teams.
  • Deep expertise in financial planning, treasury, audit, risk, and compliance under NZ legislation.
  • Proven ability to lead finance transformation and deliver change through redesign of operating models or business processes.
  • Sharp analytical skills and the ability to turn data into commercial insights that shape strategy and performance.
  • Experience working with legal, compliance, and governance functions.
  • An understanding of the New Zealand racing and sporting environment, including the role of codes, clubs and related stakeholders, is preferred.
  • A collaborative leadership style, with a focus on team development.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across diverse groups, including external partners.
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to tailor messaging for a range of audiences.
  • A mindset that goes beyond compliance, bringing critical thinking and commercial acumen to every decision.
