About the RoleWe are seeking applications from Rehabilitation Medicine Specialists to join our Adult Rehabilitation Service at Burwood Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to provide inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation care across neurorehabilitation, general rehabilitation, and spinal rehabilitation.Two parental leave cover roles are available:
1.0 FTE starting 9 January 2026
0.4 FTE starting 20 February 2026
Fixed term for 6-12 months (depending on parental leave requirements)
This role offers variety and collaboration across specialist teams, with opportunities to contribute to teaching, service development, and research.About the TeamThe Adult Rehabilitation Service at Burwood Hospital provides comprehensive rehabilitation for people aged 16-65 years. Our services include:
Neurorehabilitation
General rehabilitation and reconditioning
Specialist spinal rehabilitation (as one of two supra-regional spinal services in New Zealand)
You will be working closely with Christchurch Hospital services such as Orthopaedics, Plastics, and Urology to ensure high-quality outcomes for patients.About Burwood HospitalBurwood Hospital, set in attractive grounds on the outskirts of Christchurch, is a centre for rehabilitation and elective orthopaedic surgery. Our service has strong links with Christchurch Hospital, ensuring patients benefit from integrated care across both sites.About youAs a Rehabilitation Medicine Specialist, you will bring:
FAFRM (RACP) or an equivalent qualification (vocational registration with MCNZ, or eligible for the same)
Experience in general, neuro, and/or spinal rehabilitation
Strong commitment to patient-centred care
Ability to contribute to teaching and mentoring junior medical staff
Interest in research and service development initiatives
