Addictions PractitionerTe Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (TToH) is a well-respected, successful, large health and social services provider, supporting our local community in Hawkes Bay and whānau throughout the East Coast of the North Island from Waiora to the Wairapapa. Our health, social, education and community development teams have been working successfully with whānau for over 38 years.Reporting to the Team Manager, the key purpose of this role is to work as part of a large, integrated team delivering our Te Ao Maori AOD programme. Based in our comfortable, modern offices and training facilities at Hawkes Bay Regional prison, our programme involves group facilitation and individual sessions with Tane. The focus is on rehabilitation and reducing repeat convictions and imprisonment. We offer Tane a kaupapa Māori, AOD based programme to help them develop the skills, knowledge, and strategies they need to make real, positive changes in their lives.Ideal candidates will have:
  • A relevant tertiary education in Psychology, Addictions, Mental Health, Social Work, Nursing, Counselling or Education OR be studying towards a degree and have life experience working with whānau in our community
  • Have experience in delivering and facilitating therapeutic interventions for individuals or groups in AOD
  • Experience with report writing and effective client and caseload management
  • A Full, current Driver's license
  • Vaccination for COVID 19
You will need to be able to:
  • Work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities
  • Understand or have lived experience of some of the challenges these Tane have faced
  • Know or be willing to learn about Te Ao Māori culture and tikanga and apply our Te Reo and kaupapa Māori practices to your mahi
  • Be comfortable with regular practice reviews and receptive to feedback and change
  • Practise the Principles of CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Practise and Responsive support
  • Make connections with local iwi, hapu and marae
  • Manage challenging behaviour and actions of some Tane
  • Demonstrate professional boundaries and practise self-care
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, reliability and be supportive of their team members. You must have the ability to be assertive while also having a sense of compassion and non-judgement and relate to all walks of life.This is a full time, permanent position working 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. The Taiwhenua offices and facilities are large, spacious, light-filled offices with modern amenities, courtyard and outside seating in our own separate area.The prison environment can be challenging and you need to be safety conscious, intuitive and highly self-aware in this environment.
