Are you an experienced Kaimanaaki/Cultural Support Worker who can make a cultural & safe difference to our tangata whaiora, whanau and our clinical staff? We are seeking a Kaimanaaki to join the Pūrehurehu team in our male forensic inpatient unit in Porirua. The role involves facilitating activities and programmes, to support clinical staff to respond in a culturally appropriate and safe manner and attend MDT forums and clinical reviews. The salary range is $72,074 to $86,719 depending on experience as per the Allied Health MECA.About the Team/Service/ LocationTe Korowai Whāriki (TKW) is an operational group of regional and national services that has staff based in various locations in the Central Region, from Gisborne to Wanganui through to Wellington. Te Korowai Whāriki services are both inpatient and community based. Te Korowai Whāriki consists primarily of two arms - Central Regional Services and the Intellectual Disability (ID) ServicesThe Central Regional Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Service is based at the Rātonga-Rua-O-Porirua campus. Within this service, Pūrehurehu is a dedicated space that provides support for tāne (men) who may need intensive mental health care, close observation, and a safe, secure environment as part of their healing journey.Pūrehurehu is here to offer a space where people can feel safe while receiving the care and support they need. Many of those who stay with us have been referred through the justice system, either by the courts for mental health assessment and/or treatment, or from prison when mental health support is needed.Our aim is to work in partnership with tāngata whaiora supporting them through their mental health challenges while recognising their strengths, experiences, and goals for the future.About you
  • Sound Knowledge of Tikanga Maori and how to apply it in practise.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills adding to a positive team environment.
  • Experience in working in mental health settings.
  • At least have or are working towards NZQA Level 4 or higher certificate or equivalent qualification.
