Job Description We require an experienced, driven, capable 2IC, for our dairy farming business. We peak milk 1250 cows through a 70 bale rotary, on 420ha at Castlerock in Northern Southland. We also manage the runoff 7km's away where all cows are wintered and young stock are grown.
You will be required to assist with the day-to-day management of the farm while implementing farm plans, policies & procedures, manage daily planning and staff management in the absence of the contract milkers.
You must be capable of and be able to put into practice:
  • Pasture management,
  • Managing your time & team time efficiently,
  • Being a strong team player and leader,
  • Teaching, and being taught,
  • Communicating clearly,
  • Feed budgeting - both at the runoff (winter feed) and dairy farm,
  • Animal care & welfare,
  • Environmental & effluent regulations,
  • Staff training & management,
  • Understanding a farm financial budget,
  • Actively modelling our H & S and well-being policy in the workplace,
  • Confident use of a tractor & machinery,
  • Being quiet & calm with stock,
  • Having an eye for detail.

You must be eligible to work in New Zealand, have a full driver's license and be able to pass a drug test.
Roster currently is 6 on 2 off over calving and 8 on 2 off/8 on 3 off during the quieter months.
