Mō te tūnga | About the RoleTe Mana Ora, part of the National Public Health Service, provides public health services to people living throughout Canterbury and the West Coast. This role forms part of our Timaru based Health Protection Team. The team is involved in a broad range of environmental and communicable disease issues, alcohol harm reduction and emergency planning.We are seeking a motivated person who is either currently qualified as a Health Protection Officer or is currently training and studying to become a Health Protection Officer. This is an exciting career where you will find yourself being part of our large regional Protection Team and involved in regulatory work, monitoring, communicable disease investigation, border Biosecurity, and emergency preparedness.In this role (once you are designated), you are required to be on the on-call roster. It would be highly desirable if you have experience self-managing complex and challenging interactions with people.Ko wai koe | About YouYou preferably will have previously been designated as a Health Protection Officer by the Ministry of Health and have retained the competencies such that designation could be reinstated on appointment. Applicants with an appropriate undergraduate qualification or a partly completed postgraduate diploma in environmental health science may be considered for appointment as a trainee.Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and ExperienceRequired skills or experience for the role:

  • Current full NZ driver - s licence
  • Relevant qualifications and experience in compliance, public health, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and working bi culturally with commitment to equity
