- Proactively build relationships with community and key stakeholders to deliver outcomes that increase preparedness
- Support communities to develop community response plans
- Develop and delivering public education programmes
- Deliver training across the 4R's to Southland council staff, communities and volunteers
- Actively participate in response to support the Emergency Coordination Centre operations
- Availability for rostered on-duty obligations and after-hours work is a core part of the role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate hazard science to the general public, other staff and leaders;
- Ability to organise and speak at community meetings, and events
- Able to use social media and understands the various platforms available
- Competent with Microsoft products, knowledge of Office 365 is desirable
- Able to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
- Positive, results-oriented and 'can-do' attitude
- Have a full, current and clean drivers licence
