This New Zealand-based engineering firm specialises in automation, control systems, and machinery upgrades for industry - particularly timber processing and manufacturing. They design, build, and commission bespoke solutions that solve real-world problems, improve plant performance, and enhance operational reliability. With a focus on long-term relationships, they work closely with clients across the country and offer meaningful technical challenges to their team.The Role
This is a diverse role where you'll be involved from start to finish - quoting, designing, coding, commissioning, and supporting automation systems. It's a hands-on engineering position that values practical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to understand how machines really work.Key responsibilities include:
  • Design and quoting of tailored automation solutions
  • PLC programming using Rockwell/Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms
  • Drafting of control systems and panel layouts
  • On-site commissioning (some travel required)
  • Troubleshooting and service work (approx. 20-50% of the role)
  • Direct client interaction - managing expectations and ensuring successful project outcomes
About You
We're looking for a practical, well-rounded engineer with:
  • A strong understanding of machinery automation and control systems
  • PLC programming experience (Rockwell/Allen Bradley and Siemens)
  • Familiarity with complex I/O configurations and system integration
  • A hands-on, solutions-focused approach and a genuine interest in how machinery operates
  • The ability to manage projects independently and communicate effectively with clients
  • Experience in timber, packaging, or similar industrial sectors (ideal but not essential)
We're also open to engineers with a strong mechanical background who want to grow their automation skillset, or intermediate engineers ready to step into a more senior role.What's in it for You
