Our mission is to earn the trust of every New Zealander by protecting what matters most, and that includes you.What you'll be doing:We're delivering on our large transformation programme of work replacing our core systems and building on our new policy platform. We're looking for hands-on contract Solution Architects who can partner with delivery squads, engineers, vendors and business leads to turn goals into well-designed, operable solutions. We're working on initiatives that include:

Shaping cloud solutions on AWS - set patterns and reference designs; guide CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code initiatives so teams can ship safely and often.
Evolve our data platform - design end-to-end data flows and governance using Amazon Redshift, AWS Glue and S3, with consumption in Power BI; optimise cost, performance and security by design.
Frame our early AI approach - help define the architecture, guardrails and MLOps pathways. Familiarity with Databricks is a plus, while taking a pragmatic AWS-native first stance.
Right-size integration - help us stand up the capabilities we need (API-led, event-driven, messaging) and set lightweight standards so squads can move fast without rework.
Coach and unblock - collaborate with engineers to land designs, de-risk non-functionals (resilience, security, observability), and keep delivery flowing.

A bit about you:You're the kind of person that can explain technical concepts to non-technical people. You can consult with business leaders at all levels to ensure they understand the value of technology & architecture. You'll also bring:

Experience with large transformation programmes in complex environments.
A depth of experience in AWS for both cloud infrastructure and data architecture
Experience guiding platform choices and setting guardrails that balance speed, safety and cost, experience with AI/ML being highly desirable.
Practical experience establishing integration capabilities and patterns.
