Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Māori Health research team here at Māori Health Services. This role will be based in Auckland.As a successful Project Manager, you will play a key role in conducting research on the Health Research Council Funded project `Cancer Whiri II Extending the pathway, driving the implementation of the Auckland based co-design and pilot within the Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai, Te Puriri o Te Ora service. Whiri was developed with a pro equity focus of providing health services and care to whānau accessing and re-engaging with the health system. Developed with a kaupapa lens, for Māori by Māori, Whiri is a critical service in mitigating unmet needs for Māori and Pacific patients who receive care from a hospital service. Whiri aligns with the highly successful Whānau Ora approach, focussing on the needs and goals of the whānau, centred on improving equity for Māori and other priority populations whilst being grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The current Cancer Whiri II project seeks to extend the model from referral for suspicion of cancer through to completion of cancer treatment, and to develop an implementation kete to enable successful localisation and implementation of the model; which will then be piloted at two sites.This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in supporting new ways of working in the health system, to address inequities using the WHIRI model of care for whānau in the Cancer WHIRI II study. This programme of work will embrace Mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori in order to be effective for our Māori communities and fulfil our Te Tiriti obligations.Day to day: you will be conducting research activities and providing critical management of the project across four phases. These are: co-design, the development of the implementation kete, the pilot, and evaluation. This will cover a range of activities that include (but are not limited to) conducting qualitative interviews, and wānanga and whānau led co-design sessions working with patients/whānau, clinical staff, community and other stakeholders, using an iterative continuous quality improvement process. The Project Manager will also support the development of a Mātauranga Māori Cancer WHIRI framework, which will integrate rongoā Māori into the model of care.Key responsibilities:
  • Lead the co-design of the model of care and hauora assessment for the Auckland region;
  • Build and maintain relationships with the whole sector hospital, primary care and community services
  • Manage the daily operations and ensure continuous monitoring and quality improvement

About youAs a project manager to be considered for the role youll need:
  • A relevant graduate and/or post graduate qualification with a record of managing health research in New Zealand or equivalent project management experience
  • A commitment to biculturalism and achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • Understanding of Tikanga Māori, Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori and the ability to engage appropriately in Māori settings
  • A high level of research and report writing skills
  • Track record of research publications or equivalent reports
  • A proven ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, particularly community groups
  • Proven ability to lead, as well as be self-motivated and work autonomously within team
