We are looking for a Senior Librarian to work in DiscoverIT! our Children's and Youth section of the Puke Ariki library, to manage the daily operations, support the team and contribute as one of our team of Seniors who are responsible for the library on a rostered basis.We are looking for someone with experience working with children and youth in a Library or similar setting, who builds relationships with colleagues easily and is able to support the wider Library leadership team as necessary.In this 40-hour-per-week role, you'll work on a 7-day roster, delivering exceptional, proactive customer service to a diverse range of visitors. You'll play a key role in supporting the delivery of our library services and literacy programmes, helping to inspire learning, creativity, and connection across our community.If you're enthusiastic about libraries, love working with children and youth, and thrive in a collaborative environment, we'd love to hear from you.Key Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa matua
  • Supervision of the team regarding daily operational tasks.
  • Senior in charge taking responsibility and accountability for staff and customers within the facility during rostered shifts and ensure security and safety of the building.
  • Undertake rostered shifts on the desk which would include some Wednesday evenings and weekend work
  • Provide support for rostering and daily task rotation administration
  • Respond to customer enquiries to ensure customers receive service that exceeds their expectations
  • Assist customers in the use of Library technology
  • Use expertise to assist customers to find appropriate reading materials to suit different age ranges, and support staff in doing so
  • Contribute to and ensure collection management is undertaken - shelving books, shelf checking, display work and tidying
  • Contribute to a range of attractive displays
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of programmes and events across the library network and outreach opportunities
  • Contribute to and actively support a positive team culture
  • Provide training to staff as necessary
  • Commit to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga and Te Reo Māori
Essential Skills and Experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
  • A relevant library qualification
  • Experience working in libraries and in Children's and Youth services (preferably Public Libraries)
  • Competency in Library Management systems
  • Strong interpersonal and demonstrated people management skills
  • Experience in delivering programming and events
  • Full drivers licence desirable
