Kia mau, kia ita, kia ū - haumi e, hui e, tāiki e!About the roleWe're looking for an experienced Principal Planner - Urban Planning and Policy, or a Senior Planner who is looking for the opportunity to develop their career in this direction.As a Principal Planner within the Urban Communities Team, you'll be planning for the future of Tauranga, with a focus on supporting growth and community wellbeing within existing urban areas. You will be working with a range of partners (such as tangata whenua, Kāinga Ora, Waka Kotahi and the community) to provide technical and project delivery leadership across a range of complex, multidisciplinary projects, including but not limited to:
  • Leading plan changes and policy development to support growth and improve urban outcomes, particularly within existing urban areas
  • Leading urban planning for development sites and areas
  • Leading engagement and partnership with mana whenua, internal and external project partners, key stakeholders and the community
  • Supporting delivery of Council's spatial planning outcomes for intensification areas
  • Supporting Council's role on SmartGrowth and related sub-regional planning
  • Forward planning for investment to support growth, including inputs into the Long-Term Plan process
  • Inputs into wider growth, transportation and city planning projects as a 'technical expert'
  • Providing guidance and leadership to other planners within the team.
What you'll need to succeedTo succeed in this role, you'll bring:
  • Prior experience and relevant qualifications in urban planning and resource management policy development
  • Exceptional communication
  • Relationship building and management skills
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders in a range of complex situations.
