Mō te tūnga | About the roleThe Forensic Mental Health Service (FMHS) provides assessment, intensive treatment, care and rehabilitation for tangata whaiora (consumers) who, as a result of mental illness, have seriously offended, or are assessed as high risk for serious offending. The FMHS works across a continuum from inpatient to community settings utilising Nursing case management to meet consumer's individual needs within a multi-disciplinary team framework, We are dedicated to developing good working therapeutic relationships with the person, their family/whanau and the wider health, corrections and justice systems. Our aim is to provide a non-judgemental, holistic and culturally sensitive approach which provides choices to support people with a mental illness to live a meaningful life. We place a strong emphasis on risk management, psychiatric assessment and maintaining the privacy and confidentiality for those in our care.Te Whare Mauriora (The House of Life) is a 13 bed open Forensic Mental Health Rehabilitation ward where we work in partnership with consumers in their transition back to the community.We do this by providing choices and individualised care that supports people with a mental illness to live a meaningful life, and all the time assessing and managing risk.Te Whare Manaaki (The House of Healing) is a 15 bed acute medium secure (locked) inpatient Forensic Mental Health Unit. People are primarily admitted via the Courts for a psychiatric assessment and possible treatment; transferred from prison at the recommendation of the Forensic Prison Team, or the community due to concerns around risk and indicators of major mental illness.Te Whare Hohou Roko (The House of Peace) is a 9 bed medium secure (locked) inpatient unit that provides extended support which integrates risk management and recovery for the person's treatment.Pehea | About YouExcellent communication and interpersonal skills along with a caring and compassionate nature will see you excel in this area.   • The positions are based on a roster thus flexibility across all shifts (morning, afternoon, and night) is imperative - the shifts follow a 4 days on, 2 days off roster pattern (for a full-time position-0.94 FTE).

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceIn order to be successful in this role, the following is required:
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope;
  • Previous experience working within any area of mental health;
  • Self-motivated, flexible and solutions-focused;
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
  • A current NZ Drivers License is essential for community positions;
  • For inpatient positions, a current NZ Driving License is desirable;
