Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai Tokerau are proud to offer a provisional fellowship position for a final year ANZCA trainee or new fellow of the college. Applications are also open to overseas trained doctors with an equivalent qualification.Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai Tokerau is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai Tokerau (formerly Northland District Health Board) provides public health services across the Northland region, from north of Wellsford to Cape Reinga. Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three rural hospitals in Kaitaia; Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Our population is 35% Māori, with high levels of geographic isolation and socioeconomic deprivation, creating unique health challenges.Our Anaesthetic Department provides a 24 hour, 7 days per week service to Whangārei Hospital as well as oversight to specialist anaesthetists employed at Kaitaia Hospital. We have a strong Perioperative Medicine department with specialist anaesthetic echocardiography, bariatric, and high-risk clinics. Our workload includes a large proportion of paediatric work; as well as trauma, major general and ENT procedures, obstetrics, and spinal surgery. Kaitaia Hospital has been approved as a satellite training site where you could complete up to 10% of your time and experience working in a rural anaesthesia environment.We are looking for a motivated clinician to provide effective and high-quality anaesthetic services to the Northland community. Ideally you will bring an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori, knowledge of Te Reo Māori is also valued. You should be a confident communicator and be willing to participate in teaching resident medical staff, nurses and anaesthetic technicians. You will also be involved in supervision of introductory trainees out of hours on a 1:9 basis, helping them to transition to the registrar after-hours roster.The clinical focus of this position is open to be shaped by the interests of the successful applicant, with the opportunity available to incorporate Kaupapa Māori research. We are also able to support special interests in medical education, perioperative medicine or regional anaesthesia. The job can be moulded to fit the right candidate.To be considered, you must have, or be eligible for general or vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
