For over 100 years, our people have kept the country running by planning, building, and operating the system that powers Kiwi businesses, communities, and homes.About the teamOur National Grid Works Delivery team, part of the Grid Delivery division, is responsible for delivering capital build projects across all assets that make up New Zealand's transmission system (the "Grid"). We work together to deliver economically for the people of Aotearoa, with a strong focus on timeliness, quality, safety, and system reliability.About the opportunityWe have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Project Manager to join our team in Christchurch.In this role, you'll support project managers and take ownership of small to medium projects within the National Grid Works Portfolio. As your experience grows, so will the scale and complexity of the projects you lead.You'll be guided by experienced project managers who are invested in your development, helping you develop confidence and capability as you step into project ownership.You'll also strengthen your professional network by working closely with our project team, collaborating across the Grid and Business Divisions, and engaging with external contractors and vendors. As a valued contributor, you'll help ensure project management, coordination, and reporting align with business objectives and are delivered effectively and on time.About youYou're inclusive, self-motivated, and skilled at building relationships and navigating complexity. Your attention to detail, accuracy, and strong time management are complemented by your ability to plan project activities, schedule resources, and communicate clearly.If you're currently in a field-based role supporting projects and ready to take the next step, this role offers the opportunity to begin managing your own projects. You'll contribute to the successful delivery of capital works, learn from experienced project managers, and grow your skills in planning, stakeholder engagement, and project execution - all within a supportive and collaborative team environment.To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
  • Clear intent to build a career in project management, including a commitment to gaining a formal qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, CAPM) within 18 months of starting the role.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders, contractors, or delivery partners through project support, coordination, or field-based roles.
  • Understanding of safety culture, demonstrated through participation in safety initiatives, compliance with protocols, or relevant training.
  • Experience using digital tools to support project planning and delivery, including databases, financial systems, and project management software (e.g. MS Project, Primavera).
  • Effective communication and organisational skills, demonstrated through planning, scheduling, reporting, or coordination responsibilities.
