Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleWe have opportunities available for Public Health Medicine Registrars to join our experienced, supportive teams across a broad range of teams within Health New Zealand|Te Whatu Ora. These are on-going employment roles (for the duration of Advanced Training) starting on 12 January 2026.Working collaboratively, you will be part of a team of colleagues to support the mahi of the public and population health teams providing clinical, public health, epidemiological, and equity advice to support the work programme.Specific work to be undertaken will depend on the role, and the learning needs of the successful applicant and can be discussed during the application process. All roles will provide experience in a range of public health medicine competency areas.These roles are open to registrars in the Advanced Training stage of the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine training programme or of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (New Zealand-based trainees only).Applications for all Public Health Medicine Registrar roles within Health New Zealand|Te Whatu Ora (including National Public Health Service) will be administered via this application portal.Current Public Health Medicine RegistrarsThese roles are also open to current Public Health Medicine Registrars. Registrars who already have permanent employment with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora can submit an expression of interest toAbout the Team/Service/ LocationRoles are available across a broad range of teams and will be open for application by Advanced Training Public Health Medicine Registrars in the New Zealand College of Public Health Training Programme or in the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Training Programme (New Zealand-based trainees only) at various stages of training. 1FTE each for Immunisation, Protection, Intelligence and up to 2FTE for Prevention (Clinical Screening).

About you
  • A medical degree (MBChB or recognised equivalent), as well as a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree
  • The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully within a team and with a range of diverse stakeholders
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with people at all levels within the public and private sectors, related industry and community interest groups and the wider national and international communities
  • The ability to maximise the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to achieve the organisation's vision, purpose and goals.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
