Join Auckland Council Pool and Leisure Centres as a Seasonal Lifeguard and enjoy a role where you can meet great people and make a real difference in your community.As a lifeguard, your job is to help everyone stay safe and have fun at our pools by keeping a close eye on things and following health and safety rulesYour key responsibilities are:

Keep the pool area safe through active supervision and friendly interactions
Promote and enforce pool rules in a positive way
Respond quickly and calmly to any First Aid emergencies

We have several fixed-term opportunities during our busy summer period from 10th Nov 2025/1st of December until February or March 2026 at our three Leisure Centres at Glenfield,Takapuna, and Birkenhead. Shifts below are flexible, note that roster may vary based on operational needs:

Glenfield Pool and Leisure - roster varies from 8.30am-5pm, 10.30am-7pm, 11.30-8pm, and 12-4pm everyday

3 x 16 hours
1 x 20 hours
Takapuna Pool and Leisure - roster includes three weekdays and one weekend day: 16:30-20:30 on weekdays, 13:30-17:30 on weekends

2 x 16 hours
Birkenhead Pool and Leisure - 1x weekend and 2x weekday shifts

3 x 20 hours

As our centre operates from 5.30AM to 9PM, 7 days a week, the ability to work early morning, late night, and weekend are vital. Flexibility, reliability and a commitment to working early, late, and weekend shifts are essential.He kōrero mōu: About youTo get started, you'll need to feel confident in the water and pass a swim test. Here's what you'll need to be able to do:

Swim 200m in under 6 minutes
Swim 25m using sidestroke
Swim 50m using breaststroke
Pick up an object from the bottom of the pool - max depth: 5M
Tread water for 5 minutes

You will need to be available on 25th of September for an Assessment Centre at Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre.And you will also be required to attend either of the following training dates at our West Wave location Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm:

10/11/2025 - 21/11/2025
01/12/2025 - 12/12/2025

Additionally, to work as a lifeguard in New Zealand, you need a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).
