You will gain excellent practical experience in managing very sick patients reflecting the high health needs of the region. Road trauma, farm trauma, beach trauma: you name it and we look after it.The Department of Emergency Medicine is accredited for 24 months ACEM advanced training and paediatric log book requirements. You will work side by side with a dedicated team including 20 very experienced emergency physicians. The SMO group provides close supervision for trainees with a weekly commitment to clinical teaching. You will gain experience in many procedures and develop your clinical skills to be the best. The SMOs enthusiastically lead our weekly RMO teaching sessions as well as teaching for those sitting examinations. Rotations to other specialty services (ICU, anaesthetics, paediatrics, and medicine) are established.The department is well supported by all the other services. Emergency Medicine staff actively utilise ultrasound in their patient care, with 2 machines in the ED including the latest Sonosite.Before applying you must have either general registration or be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council (www.mcnz.org.nz).
