Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleWe're looking for a dynamic and experienced Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) to lead our Oncology and Haematology services across Tauranga and Whakatāne Hospitals.This is a key leadership position responsible for the delivery of high-quality outpatient cancer care across both sites. Both units provide outpatient oncology and haematology care through dedicated consultation spaces and treatment chairs.As the CNM, you'll provide strategic and operational oversight of the clinical and administrative team. You'll manage daily operations, lead service delivery, and support the growth and development of your staff, while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and service excellence.Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading a clinically sound, patient-focused model of care
  • Managing daily staffing, resource planning, and patient flow
  • Driving continuous quality improvement and service development
  • Supporting clinical education and workforce capability
  • Promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork
  • Contributing to wider medical and multidisciplinary team planning and coordination
About the Team/Service/ LocationThe Oncology and Haematology team is made up of a close-knit, nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), medical staff, allied health professionals, and administrators. We pride ourselves on our supportive and collaborative approach to care, and our commitment to innovation, shared learning, and professional development.Our team works across both Tauranga and Whakatāne Hospitals to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. We are driven by a shared goal to make a positive difference to the lives of our patients, their whānau, and each other.About youYou will be an experienced oncology or haematology nurse with a calm, confident leadership style and the ability to manage the complexities of a fast-paced clinical environment. You'll be approachable, organised, and committed to both team success and positive patient outcomes.You will bring:
  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (APC required)
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (or working towards a Master's degree)
  • Minimum 5 years of post-registration clinical experience, ideally in oncology, haematology, or acute inpatient care
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including shift leadership, team management or CNM-level oversight
  • Strong knowledge of service planning, budgeting and rostering
  • Experience in quality improvement, change management, and professional development initiatives
  • Confidence in supporting a team within a clinical environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and lead with integrity and empathy
