Previous experience as a herd manager or 2IC in irrigated dairy farming is preferred. If you have a positive outlook, want to continue to learn and develop on a high performing farm, then this could be the opportunity for you.
Woodlands is a 288ha milking platform, peak milking 1100 cows, with pivot irrigation located 5 minutes from Kirwee and 30 minutes from Christchurch. It is self contained with support land, all located within 10 minutes drive.
The Friesian cows are milked through a 50 bale rotary shed, with automatic cup removers and protract automatic drafting. Staff are managed with a fair milking roster with first herd early start milking receiving early knock off. Grain is fed in-shed year round, with maize silage, pasture silage and PKE fed in paddock as required.
Annual production is 530-560,000kgMS.
The 2IC will work under the farm manager and be capable of operating the dairy farm and runoff and staff without supervision if required. The farm team will have 7-8 members including the farm manager.
The successful applicant will support and contribute to managing:
- Animal health
- Calving and mating
- Pasture management
- Supplementary feeding
- Run off support
- Operating farm machinery
- Staff management
- Farm maintenance
Applicant must have a full current NZ drivers license, clean police record and can demonstrate a drug free history.
