Automotive Service Technician and Mechanic

Napier Port is a key gateway for the central and lower North Island, providing a vital link to international markets. We are committed to delivering world-class port services and infrastructure to support the growth and prosperity of our region.Our Fleet Services Group is responsible for servicing a diverse fleet, including mobile harbour cranes, heavy forklifts, container handlers, trucks, trailers, and utility vehicles. As an Apprentice Mechanic, you will receive support from experienced trade-qualified staff and learning providers.What You'll Do:

Engage in both hands-on and theory-based learning and assessment.
Gain practical experience in our Port workshop, working alongside qualified professionals.
Pursue an NZQA accredited automotive heavy equipment trade qualification.

What We're Looking For:

Technical school qualifications (NCEA Level 2 in Maths, Physics, English, etc.).
A relevant pre-trade qualification.
Relevant work experience (automotive, mechanical, engineering, electronics).
Minimum Class 1 license.

Ideal Candidate:

Interest in mechanical servicing and comfort working at heights (e.g., from elevated work platforms, mobile harbour crane servicing).
Ability, motivation, and commitment to succeed.
Positive attitude and reliable work ethic.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to thrive in a safe, team-based culture providing 24/7 cover.
