Mō te tūnga | About the roleWe're looking for a Senior Health and Safety Adviser to support the redevelopment of Hawke's Bay Regional Prison as part of the Accelerated Capacity Programme. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a major public infrastructure project from the ground up.You'll lead health and safety due diligence across all stages of the programme, manage reporting and assurance activities, oversee risk assessments and Safety in Design processes, and build strong relationships with contractors and partners to strengthen health and safety practices.This role reports to the Principal Adviser H&S (IDA and Health Services), with a dotted line to the Programme Manager, Accelerated Capacity Programme.Role details:
  • Preferred locations: Hawke's Bay or Wellington (nationwide applicants considered)
  • Full NZ Driver Licence required
  • Travel to Hawke's Bay Regional Prison will be required, potentially 1-2 days/week for the first 2-3 months, plus occasional travel to Wellington (depending on candidate location)

You thrive in fast-paced settings, can manage complex health and safety requirements, and build strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceSuccessful applicants will have the following skills and experience:
  • Experience in a significant risk environment.
  • Experience in construction and infrastructure environments or projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of H&S legislation and best practice.
  • Proven ability to engage across all levels as a trusted H&S adviser.
  • Experience delivering H&S systems including risk management and Safety in Design.
  • Experience in high security environments is an advantage.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
Strong business writing and reading comprehension skills are essential. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide a sample of written work.You'll also have relevant work experience, a tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, and ideally be a member of a professional body such as IOSH, NZISM or HASANZ.Utu ā-tau | SalaryThe midpoint of the salary range is $119,013 and the full range (85%-120%) is $101,162 - $142,816.
