Promoting a confident and connected cultureKōrero mō te tūranga | About the roleLegal work for Manatū Taonga is hugely varied and interesting, and includes policy development and law reform, public law, procurement and contracting, privacy and official information, providing wide ranging legal opinions, drafting taonga tūturu applications to the Māori Land Court, and Treaty of Waitangi related issues. As well as strong internal relationships we work closely with our Crown entities and other funded agencies.Responsibilities include:
- legal advice to support development and implementation of government policy and legislation relevant to the arts culture and heritage sectors;
- advice on statutory and other legal obligations of Ministers, the Ministry and the Chief Executive;
- advice and internal policy application relating to privacy and official information;
- drafting and reviewing contracts and maintaining the Ministry's contract management system;
- providing support to the Ministry's Privacy Officer.
