With over 90 Op Shops across New Zealand, we give second-hand goods a new life and every purchase helps rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need.ABOUT THE ROLEWe have an exciting opportunity at our Hawera SPCA Op Shop for a:
  • Part-Time Op Shop Assistant
  • Saturday shift 8:45am to 2:15pm (5hrs) as well as availability to pick up other shifts as required to cover leave, busy periods, and weekends
Key Responsibilities
  • Work sole charge on rostered days, taking full responsibility for daily shop operations.
  • Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.
  • Ensure the shop is clean, welcoming, and well-stocked throughout the day.
  • Serve customers with warmth and professionalism, promoting positive donor and shopper experiences.
  • Accurately process sales and cash handling, including end-of-day reconciliation.
  • Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager's absence.
  • Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
  • Ensure health & safety and SPCA procedures are followed.

  • Retail or customer service experience (charity retail a bonus).
  • Confident working sole charge and making operational decisions when required.
  • Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
  • Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a team and independently.
  • Physically fit and able to lift/move stock as required.
