The Emergency Management team is focused on building the resilience of our communities in the Nelson Tasman region. We assist individuals, families, and businesses to be ready when disaster strikes. We make plans, so we’re ready to respond to emergencies, lead the response to emergency events, and coordinate recovery afterwards. We’ve been very busy lately, as you can imagine!About this role | Kō tēnei tūranga mahiWe have an exciting opportunity for an experienced office coordinator to join our team on a permanent basis. This role will first start as a part-time position (aiming for 20 hour per week from 3 June - 31 December) and will increase to fulltime (40 hours per week) at the beginning of January 2025. We are willing to consider alternative part-time arrangements to begin with, so please let us know what days/hours you would be able to work.As the incumbent is retiring at the end of Dec 2024, you will need to be able to take on the entirety of the role and increase to full-time in January 2025. You may also be required to work for extended shifts and weekends during emergency events.This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to transition into Emergency Management work. You will have the benefit of job sharing at the start and the opportunity to have a thorough handover from the current incumbent for the first 6 months.In this role you’ll play a critical role in supporting the effective functioning of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) with key responsibilities including:
  • Being the first point of contact for callers and visitors to the Centre
  • Assisting in maintaining the readiness of the Group EOC
  • Setting up for meetings, including catering and IT support
  • Budget support, purchasing and contract management
  • Training administration and support for public education sessions
  • Supporting the New Zealand Response Team and volunteers
  • Managing office processes and documentation
  • Meeting coordination, including invites, agendas, note-taking, minutes,
  • And more!
About you | Ko ngā pūmanawa ōuTo this role you will bring:
  • Strong operational and practical skills
  • Previous experience working in emergency situations or ‘first response’ agencies (e.g. emergency services, or health sector) is an advantage.
  • Reliability and good judgement
  • A calm approach under pressure
  • An approachable and responsive working style, which enables you to quickly build rapport
  • A self-motivated approach to ensuring the smooth running of the office and supporting team activities
  • Ease with learning how to operate new systems and equipment quickly (satellite phones, radios etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience working in and contributing to high performing teams. Given the dynamic nature of the role, a full driver’s licence is required, as well as flexibility to attend community events and support during emergencies.

This is a permanent role, starting with part time hours and increasing to 40 hours per week in January 2025. The salary range is $60,000 - $68,000 (pro rata for the part time hours).Next Steps.
