These bespoke, purpose-built developments located strategically across the region will see Fisher & Paykel create a centre for excellence in appliance design and innovation in Aotearoa New Zealand.Based at our current East Tāmaki Design Centre, this opportunity is best suited to a competent intermediate-senior level creative-thinking industrial design specialist with experience working within a Product Development environment and can design solutions with genuine customer value in mind, while aligning with our brands positioning. Tasked with being the voice for our customer, you will be responsible for providing a continuous stream of innovative, useful, and beautiful products that support and enhance the competitiveness of our brand.About the roleReporting to the Head of Industrial Design, you will:
  • Be part of a team that is instrumental in the delivery of a customer insight led product development vision.
  • Have the opportunity to work on a range of current and future products.
  • Be responsible for achieving projects within a team of Industrial Designers, a key part of this achievement will involve collaborating and influencing our team of product development engineers and being the voice of design and brand for our product design decisions.
This is where you come in…
  • You’ll naturally influence, with a track record of building strong cross-functional relationships, and able to communicate both visually and verbally
  • You’ll come with experience managing the responsibility for leading delivery of projects, or other activities within larger projects.
  • Experience working collaboratively with other specialists to develop new designs, working with both new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Be able to demonstrate aesthetic maturity, are self-driven and able to work to tight schedules.
  • Have sound understanding of mechanics, kinematics, manufacturing processes and materials.
  • You may have some experience in model-making and prototyping, creating quick prototypes to prove concepts, as well as more refined visual models is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency using design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, parametric CAD modelling such as PTC Creo and rendering packages such as Key-shot (or similar) is required.
  • A degree in a relevant field such as Industrial Design or Product Design is essential.
