Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleAs Director, Data and Analytics, you will be responsible for providing end-to-end data and information services across Health New Zealand. This includes oversight of national health data collection, storage, coding, and analytics to monitor outputs, track outcomes, and support performance improvement. You will lead the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality analytics to inform decision-making and public reporting, while ensuring robust systems and standards are in place for data collection, security, and quality assurance. With accountability for over 400 FTEs across coding, data systems, and analytics functions, you will provide strong strategic leadership, working closely with Digital Services, the Ministry of Health, and other key stakeholders to build national data capability. Central to the role is embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and equity priorities into all aspects of data and analytics, ensuring that insights drive meaningful improvements in health outcomes.About the TeamThe Data and Analytics Directorate plays a critical role within the Planning, Funding and Outcomes group, delivering trusted data and insights to enable effective health system performance and long-term planning. This role is based in Auckland and reports directly to the National Director, Planning, Funding and Outcomes.About youYou are a strategic leader with deep expertise in data and analytics, capable of operating at an executive level. You have the skills to build strong teams, set system-wide standards, and ensure data is used to drive meaningful improvements in health outcomes.You will bring:
  • Relevant qualifications in data and information management, leadership, or related fields.
  • Significant executive-level experience in Data and Digital, with expertise in business intelligence and operational analytics.
  • A proven track record in technical delivery and system improvement.
  • Familiarity with agile/dev ops methodologies.
  • Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice and a strong commitment to equity.
  • Exceptional relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across diverse stakeholders.
