A unique opportunity to join a team of four General Surgeon in the Greater Wellington Region, NZ working in a hospital providing secondary care medical and surgical services, with tertiary support close by, to a population of approximately 48,880.This post is full time with a 40 hour working week and 1 in 4 on call rota. The employment contract is permanent and offers attractive benefits in addition to a basic salary, allowances and a relocation package for candidates who are applying from overseas.Your responsibilities will include the provision of inpatient and outpatient care to patients, providing consultative opinion to general practitioners and other specialists and performing surgical procedures with an emphasis on abdominal and a bowel surgery including colonoscopy, upper and lower GI endoscopy. There are opportunities for work at a local private hospital.You will take part in clinical audits and peer reviews to ensure quality clinical care is provided and you will also teach junior doctors who are pursuing a career in surgery and medical students.The region is vibrant and culturally diverse with plenty of recreational activities, world class walking and cycling tracks, relatively affordable housing, and beautifully restored historic towns. The region offers New Zealand's premiere shopping and food destinations thanks to its designer boutiques, specialist shops, cafes and restaurants along with award winning vineyards. It also offers
quality schools, strong community spirit, great beaches, rivers and mountain ranges, and best of all you won't waste anymore time sitting in traffic jams. It is very close to other major cities , and little more than an hour from Palmerston North Airport, Wellington International Airport and Inter-Island ferry connections. Daily rail services link Wellington with Wairarapa towns.Preferred Requirements:

Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the New Zealand Medical Council in the vocational scope of surgery
FRACS or equivalent specialist qualification
At least two years of general surgery specialist practice experience
Demonstrated colonoscopy skills
Experience in upper and lower GI endoscopy
Commitment to clinical excellence and participation in clinical audits and peer reviews

Remuneration Package

basic salary for a 40 hour working week of New Zealand dollars 190,000 to 270,000 per annum
additional allowances for on call duties
relocation package for international candidates which includes flights accommodation car rental and goods shipping
allowance for study leave
superannuation
six weeks annual leave
