POSITION OVERVIEWA consultant adult forensic psychiatrist is sought for a full time permanent position with a regional forensic psychiatry service which provides a range of services for adults and youth, including adult inpatient, prison and community services, a national Youth Forensic service and the newly developed national Fixated Threat Assessment Centre.Psychiatry teams provide
  • mental health care to the local and regional men's and women's prisons and youth offending units and justice facilities
  • deliver court liaison services to adult and youth courts.
  • provide care for people who require supervision and support by virtue of their status as Special Patients or who have ongoing need for forensic community support.
The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) serves the lower North Island of New Zealand covering a large geographical area which includes local, regional, and national services.Responsibilities include
  • assessment of patients, formulation of diagnosis and treatment plans
  • on call rota participation
  • education and supervision of resident doctors
Remuneration
  • ASMS Scale salary for 40 hour work week plus additional on call allowances
  • superannuation
  • 6 weeks annual leave
  • relocation package for international physicians
Professional Requirements
  • FRANZCP or equivalent qualification
  • Vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or hold equivalent qualification and be able qualify for registration with MCNZ.
  • Subspecialist training in forensic psychiatry
