- Lead the development of projects to explore how emerging economic thought can be applied to complex challenges and opportunities.
- Actively seek out social and economic trends and translate these into guiding the priorities of the organization.
- Ensure that the team delivers on a multi-disciplinary work programme covering insights, analysis, environmental economics, social science evaluation techniques, and engagement.
- Provide technical support across the organisation to ensure economic and social science perspectives are embedded in key priority projects.
- Develop collaborative projects where the skills of the team can be optimised.
- Facilitate the delivery of regional social and economic insights to elected members to strengthen, support, and advocate for the ongoing sustainability of Waikato communities.
- You will be part of the Senior Leadership Team of the Science, Policy and Information Directorate, having the responsibility of leading our 7 strong team of Social Scientists and Economists and maintaining a constructive team culture.
- Applied knowledge and understanding of economics or social science, or other related discipline.
- Curiosity for emerging trends and futures thinking
- Developed strategic and tactical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of, and comfort in, working in Te Ao Maori
- Proven success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound project management skills with proven delivery against budgets and timelines
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
- Broad general management skills including people leadership, business acumen and positive business achievements and financial management.
- Ability to manage and deliver in an environment that could be high pressure and rapidly changing.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree qualification in resource management, social science, economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a relevant senior advisory or managerial role.
- Full Drivers Licence
