You might come to us with experience at this level, or could be an existing department or project manager looking to take the next step in your career – we are open to considering applications from both.In this role, you’ll see yourself operating as a key member of a solid and supportive leadership team. Our construction and contracting business units are critical to the long-term success of our region – and we are now looking for a new leader to take these business units to the next level.Reporting to the Construction Divisional Manager, you will lead your functions and monitor day to day operations, supporting your project management team to achieve consistently high safety, environmental, and financial performance, while delivering client and staff satisfaction. You will be a natural people-leader, motivated by challenge and change, and have a solid background in the civil construction industry.Specific areas of responsibility will include:
  • Successful delivery of projects (operational and financial accountability)
  • Lead a safety culture looking for continuous improvements
  • Work effectively with and alongside a diverse range of clients
  • Assign resource to projects to ensure desired outcomes are achieved
  • Key stakeholder engagement
  • Focus on quality from start to finish
  • Renewal of contracts, pricing, development and review forward work programmes
  • Managing and developing internal capability.
What you’ll bring to the table
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within a contracting environment
  • Ability to lead a team including the ability to coach, develop and manage performance
  • Familiar with NZS 3910, Construction Contracts Act, NEC Contracts
  • Experience in leading tender submissions
  • Understanding of variation pricing including materials, labour, plant and associated margin / profit calculations
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience
  • Competent user of Word, Excel and Project, (Auto cad would be helpful but not essential)
  • Stress management and excellent problem solving abilities
  • Acts with integrity and delivers on commitments
  • Ability to motivate teams to deliver required outcomes.
