Health and Safety Business Partner - Auckland, Hamilton or TaurangaIf you're passionate about building a positive safety culture and want to make a real impact, this is the opportunity for you! We are looking for a full-time Health and Safety Business Partner to join our team, supporting our regional operations and technical disciplines across the Tonkin + Taylor Group.In this role, you'll be a trusted advisor and strategic partner, working closely with leaders and teams to embed a proactive and positive health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) culture. You'll also collaborate with our national H&S team to drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with statutory, industry and client-specific requirements. You'll be naturally curious, approachable, and bring true care into your work. The ideal candidate will be a people-person with a knack for building relationships.Kei te hiahia mātou ki ōu pūkenga | We want your skillsA requirement of this role is to travel between Tauranga, Hamilton and Auckland on a regular basis to continue fostering strong relationships amongst our teams. This could mean regular travel, but we want to be flexible for the right candidate.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders and teams on health, safety and wellbeing, ensuring HSW requirements are built into project planning and delivery
  • Develop and maintain HSW systems, procedures and risk assessments
  • Lead incident investigations, manage corrective actions and support the incident management process
  • Mentor and support Health & Safety Representatives, Location Representatives and Wellbeing Champions
  • Oversee contractor and supplier HSW pre-qualification and performance monitoring
  • Support injury management and return-to-work programmes in collaboration with our Occ Health and Wellbeing team
  • Conduct audits and inspections, identifying and supporting improvement opportunities
  • Monitor legislative changes and support WorkSafe liaison when required
Nā tōu rourou | What you'll bring
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, ideally in construction, environmental or engineering sectors
  • Strong knowledge of NZ/Australian HSW legislation, Codes of Practice, and ISO45001
  • ICAM investigation and audit training and experience
  • Competent in risk assessment, including Bowtie methodology
  • Experience with Just Culture or Human and Organisational Performance (HOP)
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organisation
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities
  • A mindset focused on education, empowerment and continuous improvement
  • Full NZ driver's licence
