As a Summer Lifeguard, you will help ensure that our customers have an enjoyable and safe experience at our pools over the busy summer period. We'll train you to earn your National Pool Lifeguard Qualification & make sure you have a great time doing it.If you like working with people, making new friends, staying active, and having a work schedule that fits around your lifestyle, this role is for you!We have a range of hours & shifts available over the summer season for candidates who can work through the Christmas and New Year period.All CCC Lifeguards can work across our network of facilities in Ōtautahi (indoor & outdoor pools).About you | Ko Koe TēneiTo be successful, you will:

  • Be able to pass a swim test (further details below)
  • Be responsible, reliable and have good communication skills
Important parts of the process:
  • If your application meets the initial criteria, you will be invited to complete a swim test (this is mandatory). Swim test will take place between Wednesday 3rd September - Wednesday 10th September 2025.If you pass the swim test, we will contact you to discuss the next steps in the process. As swim test slots are set ahead of time, we may not be able to offer flexibility with dates. Attached to the position description is a copy of the swim test requirements, here is a video showing what's involved:
  • Candidates will need to obtain a comprehensive (Unit Standards 6400, 6401 & 6402) First Aid Certificate at their own cost prior to the Lifeguard Assessment date.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment centre interview. This is a group-style interview scheduled for Tuesday 16th September 2025 at Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre.
  • If successful after the assessment centre, you will be required to undertake 2 full days of Lifeguard Training with a follow-up assessment to gain your Pool Lifeguard Qualification, at Taiora QEII. The cost of these courses is covered by Christchurch City Council. Training and assessment dates are below (you will be invited to one of these 3 sessions);
  • Lifeguard training 06/10/25 & 07/10/25, Assessment 13/10/25.
  • Lifeguard training 14/10/25 & 15/10/25, Assessment 22/10/25.
  • Lifeguard training 20/10/25 & 21/10/25, Assessment 28/10/25.
If you already hold a PLPC you will not need to attend the Lifeguard assessment day.Additional Information | Ko ētahi atu kōrero:
  • Salary: $28.95 per hour, we pay the current NZ living wage!
  • Position: Fixed-term from early November 2025 - early April 2026.
