This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified emergency medicine physician to work in a beautiful rural coastal area of New Zealand, famed for its warm climate and long hours of sunshine.You will join the Emergency Department of a general 110 bed hospital which serves a population base of 50,000 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. This is a satellite hospital supported by a regional hospital 90 km away.The department sees around 24,000 attendances per year and comprises 17 bed spaces including 2 resus bays. The patient mix is varied, with a high proportion of Māori and a relatively young demographic.As well as enjoying a collaborative and supportive working environment, you will benefit from the support of our enthusiastic and progressive team whose focus on training and continuous quality improvement will afford you ample opportunity to both contribute to the service provision and develop professionally.Key Responsibilities include:
  • Demonstrate comprehensive and adaptive resuscitation and acute care medical skills required for the range of patient presentations of all complexities in the emergency department setting
  • Recognise and expedite any specific intervention critical to resuscitation and acute care
  • Rapidly determine the required investigation, treatment and disposition based on minimal initial information
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding and ability to work across contemporary models of emergency care
  • Recognise limits of own practice and actively seek the support of the multi-disciplinary team to achieve the best patient outcomes
  • Demonstrate effective resource and staff allocation strategies in a regional emergency medicine setting
  • Identify and prepare critically unwell patients requiring retrieval or transfer to a tertiary service
  • Provide patient management in accordance with Emergency Services protocols /practice standards and DHB Board policies
Preferred Requirements for this role:To be successful in your application for this opportunity as the Consultant Emergency Physician we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history
  • Qualified Medical Practitioner registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the vocational scope of Emergency Medicine
  • FACEM or equivalent specialist qualification in emergency medicine
  • previous experience in a healthcare system comparable to that of New Zealand is advantageous
  • New Zealand Driver Licence or international driver's licence
Remuneration and Employee BenefitsIf offered a position as consultant emergency physician, you can expect the following remuneration and benefits:
  • salary paid in accordance with national pay scales for senior medical officers (NZ$ 190,000 -270,000 pa), basic 40 hour week
