You’ll lead a high-performing team, build financial capability, and ensure long-term financial planning aligns with the Ministry’s purpose and priorities.This is a unique opportunity to influence how financial resources are used to shape an education system that delivers for every learner.As a Manager, Strategic Finance, you will:
  • Lead the development and implementation of integrated financial strategies and work programmes.
  • Provide strategic leadership on budgeting, investment intentions, and long-term financial forecasting.
  • Strengthen financial governance through robust analysis, business case development, and alignment with public sector guidelines.
  • Champion continuous improvement in financial systems, reporting, and financial data analysis.
  • Build financial capability across the Ministry, fostering a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
  • Role model authentic partnership with Māori and support the Ministry’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • A tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, or a related discipline, with 7+ years post-qualified experience.
  • Proven experience leading strategic finance functions in large organisations, ideally within the public sector.
  • Strong understanding of public sector finance, budget cycles, and reporting standards.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive leadership and cultural competency, including confidence in Māori-Crown relations.
