Whangarei HospitalCommencing January 2024This post is accredited for training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine for 6 months of core ICU training, foundation training and rural exposure requirement. It is also accredited by the colleges of anaesthesia, emergency medicine, general medicine, and rural hospital medicine training.Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai Tokerau (Northland) are seeking ICU registrars to join us for 2024!Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care services for the region, supported by 4 rural hospitals. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 194,000. It is a great place to work and live. Our case mix is one of the more varied and challenging in New Zealand. Our ICU is an 8 bedded level 2 ICU. We look after both children and adults requiring critical care support. You will also be part of the hospital emergency response teams as well as the interhospital transport team. We provide interhospital transports within Northland and to Auckland via various modes including helicopter, fixed wing and road ambulances. You will have access to multiple teaching sessions and regular quality assurance meetings.Te Whatu Ora is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.For CICM trainees there is a pathway to do one year anaesthesia time. The Northland anaesthesia department offer excellent clinical exposure and training. Trainees from other specialties, may also have access to some rostered anaesthesia time.As a region Northland is renowned for its beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle. There are many great surf beaches and beautiful harbours for sailing and other wind sports. It is also a top spot for fishing and diving with easy access to the world famous Poor Knights Marine reserve. There are also many beautiful forests and stunning coastal walks. Check if you're eligible here:It is ideal for applicants to have at least 6 months experience as a registrar in emergency medicine, general medicine or surgery.
