Hellers Ltd is a leading New Zealand manufacturer and distributor of Bacon, Ham and Smallgoods. Our award-winning quality brands enjoy significant and growing customer and consumer recognition.We are looking for a talented Senior Quality Assurance Technician to join our QA team at our Kaiapoi Plant.This is a fixed term role to support movement within the QA team due to an internal secondment into a Business Central Project.Our Senior QA Technician would be responsible for providing expert support and guidance to the Kaiapoi site team in the areas of food safety, regulatory and customer compliance and quality systems.The working days for this role would be Monday - Friday, working 40 hours per week.The role reports to the Site Quality Assurance Manager and works collaboratively with cross-functional teams at the Kaiapoi site, as well as national functions such as New Product Development (NPD), Purchasing, and other site Quality Assurance Teams to ensure consistent quality standards and compliance across the business.This role plays a key part in identifying and managing non-conformances, driving continuous improvement, and strengthening the site's food safety and quality culture.Key SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE required for this role:
  • Minimum of 3 years in a quality assurance role within the food industry, with a strong understanding of manufacturing environments and food safety standards.
  • A tertiary qualification in food science, microbiology, food technology, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Solid practical knowledge of food safety principles, microbiology, food technology, and quality management systems.
  • Experience with internal and external audits, including regulatory, customer, and export standards.
  • Ability to interpret and present technical data and reports in a clear, logical, and robust manner.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the business and with external stakeholders such as customers and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage constructively.
  • High level of initiative and analytical thinking in problem-solving and sourcing solutions.
  • Structured and disciplined approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Resilient, proactive, and ambitious, demonstrating energy, drive, and focus.
  • Ability to remain composed and effective under pressure.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management software.
