We’re seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design and delivery of a modern data platform for a high-impact programme in central Auckland. This is a 6-month initial contract with strong extension potential — ideal for a senior professional who thrives at the intersection of architecture, hands-on delivery, and strategic influence.As a Principal, you’ll bring a blend of technical depth and leadership, with expertise in:

Advanced data engineering across large-scale, cloud-based ecosystems
Databricks (strongly preferred), Azure Data Factory, Delta Tables, ADLS, and Power BI
Deep proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark for big data processing
Hands-on experience with Modern Data Platforms (MDP) such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Azure/AWS equivalents
Strong knowledge of Medallion Architecture, Star Schema, and data modelling best practices
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and code quality standards
Ability to lead technical direction, manage vendor relationships, navigate project risks, and align with stakeholder goals
