We're proud to be Aotearoa's UNESCO City of Design, blending rich heritage with modern innovation.About the roleWe're looking for a talented and motivated leader to join our Visitor Experiences Group as Manager - Venues and Events.Based across the War Memorial Centre, Royal Whanganui Opera House, and Cooks Gardens Events Centre, you'll lead a team of venue and technical professionals delivering everything from major concerts and festivals to community celebrations. This is a pivotal role - balancing strategic growth with hands-on operational delivery. You'll have the chance to shape unforgettable event experiences while growing Whanganui's reputation as a destination.You'll report to the Manager Visitor Experiences and be a key part of the wider Customer Experiences Group.What you'll bring

Proven experience managing venue or event operations at a senior level
Strong leadership and people management skills in a fast-paced environment
Excellent organisational, financial, and logistical management ability
Stakeholder relationship management skills across diverse and complex networks
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and present with impact
A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Diploma of Management or similar) or equivalent experience

Desirable:

Event Management or related qualification
Experience in the events, arts, hospitality, or entertainment industry
Local government or public sector experience
Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and tikanga
Asset and facilities management experience
