He angitūtanga: The opportunityAuckland Council's Environmental Evaluation and Monitoring Unit has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Water Quality Scientist to join the Water Quality team.Our team is responsible for long-term monitoring and reporting on Auckland's aquatic environments including lakes, rivers and streams, coastal and marine areas, and groundwater.Provide technical leadership in the field of water quality monitoring. Lead the design, implementation and review of our monitoring programmes. Build an evidence base to support policy development and implementation, and review management interventions to improve the health of our waterbodies.You will also be expected to:
  • analyse and evaluate datasets using appropriate statistical and data visualisation techniques and communicate results through technical publications and other media
  • coach and mentor other kaimahi including other scientists in the team and staff responsible for field operations and data collection
  • develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders involved in the sustainable management of Auckland's waterbodies
He kōrero mōu: About youThis role requires specific experience in delivering water quality science, evaluation and research, ideally in a local government context.We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:
  • excellent ability to analyse, interpret and report scientific information, including use of quantitative statistical analyses (such as R-coding skills)
  • strong technical writing skills and proven experience in communicating complex information to a variety of audiences
  • understanding of local government, particularly the statutory requirements associated with resource management
  • sound understanding of Te Tiriti o te Waitangi and Te Ao Māori and a recognition of the value of the use of tikanga at work
